A masterclass on restoring cultural heritage sites

A practical masterclass was organised in cooperation with students and teachers of the Faculty of Architecture by a working group led by Jahongir Rahmonov, general director of the company Madaniy Meros LITI, Karimjon Avazov, executive director, and Abdujalil Nabiyev, chief architect.

During the class, students and teachers worked together with Madaniy Meros LITI on restoration projects for the Makhdumi Azam historical-architectural complex, formerly known as Miko‘l, located 14 km north-east of the city of Samarkand.

Dilnoza Kamalova, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, explained the complex's religious-political historical significance, its architecture, its impact on the environment, and its role from the point of view of cultural upbringing.

Ilhom Sultonov, Ulug‘bek Tojiboyev and Sherzod Abduraimov, teachers of the Department of Architecture, noted that the Sufi complex of Makhdumi Azam in Dakhbed had been relatively well preserved, and that reconstruction work carried out in the 1980s had helped restore its historical appearance.

The working group began its work by photographing the monument's elements and set out its next steps, which include 3D scanning and 3D modelling.
